Highest Wind Farm in the UK

The Great Glen Energy Co-op  purchased a stake in the Millennium wind farm on the 4th September 2008 after raising £1,288,270. The 677 members, each with a shareholding ranging from £250 to £20,000,  receive annual interest on their shares in the co-op.

The wind farm, owned and managed by Millennium Wind Energy Ltd is located in Turbine Name Competition Winners
the hills north of Invergarry and south west of Fort Augustus. There are currently 20 x 2.5MW Nordex turbines on the site with planning approval for a further six. The co-op was formed to own a stake in the original 16 turbines. When the wind farm is operating fully  these 16 turbines generate enough clean, green electricity to supply around 22,400 average homes and help reduce reliance on existing less environmentally-friendly energy resources.

Members of the co-op elect a Board of Directors to run the co-op and all members receive a share in the profits from the original 16 turbines.
